Purchase options and add-ons

In bestselling author Patrick Carman's rich and riveting follow-up to The House of Power, an extraordinary world meets its destiny in an epic and unforgettable rebirth.

The world of Atherton has collapsed and the three levels have become one. Humans and monsters, once separated by vast cliffs, now roam the surface of Atherton together. The inside of Atherton--where the most troubling secrets are hidden--has been breached. While Edgar embarks on a life-or-death quest to find Atherton's mad maker, his two friends, Samuel and Isabel, venture through dangerous underground realms, confronting deadly cave dwellers, rivers of fire, and waters of life.

Atherton is not what it seems at all, but something far more dangerous, with a history locked inside the mind of a madman and a future beyond Edgar's wildest imagining.

Patrick Carman on his mission:

Since 2003, I’ve been writing books for young readers and spending a lot of time on the road, meeting them where they’re at. More than 2500 school visits later, I can report from the field that kids still love books, even as a tidal wave of distraction try to keep them from turning pages. Books still shape young minds, and they still provide unparalleled advantages every kid needs. My mission after nearly two decades and thousands of school visits hasn’t changed: get every kid excited about reading, because reading helps every kid thrive.

When I visit schools I always ask lots of kids the same question: what’s keeping you from reading? Let me count the ways! Netflix, YouTube, Fortnite, Minecraft, Snapchat, Roblox, and Instagram top the list. None of these things are bad in and of themselves, but taken together, they build a wall around books that can be difficult for a kid to climb. That’s why Skeleton Creek goes looking for kids where they are. Through the use of video content and words, Skeleton Creek draws kids in and hooks them on reading. Sometimes we just have to be willing to meet them halfway.

This sequel to the book Atherton has my 10 year old student and I on the edge of our seats. He has already expressed his desire to read the last book in the trilogy. He doesn't read for pleasure because he has learning differences, therefore any book that can hold his interest is a winner.

Watch the lead children in this story discover gifts within they did not know they had. See how their gifts contribute to their working together to the ultimate goal. They are surprised and so was I.
