A family moves into an old, abandoned house. Jules's parents love the house, but Jules is frightened and feels a sense of foreboding. When she sees a pale face in an upstairs window, though, she can't stop wondering about the eerie presence on the top floor—in a room with a locked door. Could it be someone who lived in the house a century earlier?

Her fear replaced by fascination, Jules is determined to make contact with the mysterious figure and help unlock the door. Past and present intersect as she and her ghostly friend discover—and change—the fate of the family who lived in the house all those many years ago.

I read this along with my 12 yr old son and was enthralled. Loved the story and the character development. My son and I were constantly trying to figure out Lilys mystery.

I enjoyed the details Of scenes and characters that brought me into the story. I can relate to the idea of being watched, or thinking someone is watching me from a window. It helped with the creepy vibe. But Lily turns out to be a nice ghost, so this is an easy and not quite so scary read. Though, there are things that are dreadful, they aren't brought up consistently, mostly near the end. Oh, and the men that come in the night on horses...YIKES! Didn't everyone worry as a child that someone would come get them from their rooms? I think Mary Downing Hahn might've struck a nerve with this part of the story that many can relate to.

Another great ghost story read from the best female YA author still writing!!

When Jules and her parents move to an old Victorian house so her Dad's company can restore it, the first day they arrive Jules sees a young face staring out of one of the top floor windows! What the heck?! She immediately starts to think is someone up there?.

With this book only having 208 pages in it, I bought the hardback when it came out late last year, but this was the audiobook version.....and like all the other Hahn books I have listened to this was another great read!! Can Mary Downing Hahn NOT write a good ghost story? I don't think so.

Jules is again upset because she knows that she is going to have to make new friends as she does every year because of her father's job, but what is ahead of her makes for one of the best ghost story adventures I have read since I read the 'The House of Dies Drear' when I was just a 10 year old!

I LOVED this ghost story, and would recommend this to ANYONE WHO LOVES TO READ! Not that scary so it is one that kids can read and go on the unlocking of this 100 plus year old story of a young girl who is behind a door LOCKED in the room upstairs. Why?

Having read many of Hahn's books, and reread -- several times-- all of the ones I have now, I can say that I never tire of the characters or the varied plots and the recognizable settings. I will be adding to my collection in the near future, though The Girl in the Locked Room is a distinct favorite.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The writing and grammar were excellent.Very rarely do I complete reading a book without finding faults of some kind. I would say that if all her books are as well written as this one, then this author is a master at what she.
The story is very good, with an ending that left me feeling content. I will look for more of her books. Well done.
