The Navy's Night Before Christmas Hardcover – Picture Book, September 9, 2014

4.9 4.9 out of 5 stars 395 ratings

Inspired by the famous Christmas poem, "The Night Before Christmas," this sweet picture book about Christmas in the Navy the perfect holiday gift for children of military families and anyone with loved ones serving overseas.

’Twas the night before Christmas, when way out to sea
Not a creature was stirring to windward or lee.
The sailors were nestled all snug in their racks
Like orders of pancakes, so tight were the stacks.

One Christmas Eve out at sea, some homesick sailors are paid a visit by Master Chief Claus, the Santa of Sailors. This lively and poignant tale was inspired by Clement C. Moore’s classic yuletide poem.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A young sailor on lookout duty aboard an aircraft carrier narrates this tongue-in-cheek restaging of Clement Clarke Moore's poem, a companion to The Soldiers' Night Before Christmas. Holland and Ford swap out the chubby, bearded Santa for a brawny "Master Chief Claus," who arrives via a Greyhound cargo aircraft filled with presents. "A salty old dog, he was all chest and arm./ I bet he could bench-press a Jeep with no harm," gushes the narrator, before the Chief and his crew deliver gifts for the sleeping sailors. Ages 4-8. I was looking for something Navy related for my brother who was recently excepted into OCS. Amazon suggested this book and it is a winner!

It is adorable, great for sailors of all ages or kids of sailors. Both my husband and I were tearing up when reading through this book. As soon as my husband read it he ordered a copy for his dad who had also served in the Navy.

My brother loved it and so did my father-in-law.

My FIL said they all gathered around the fire on Christmas Eve and read it aloud.

I bought this as a gift for our grandson, as a tribute to his mommy who served on an aircraft carrier during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The book is adorable with the reading and animated pictures. Great gift!

My brother is in the Navy, stationed in Norfolk; our little brother who is almost 7 missing him so much and I thought this would be the coolest book to add to his collection and for my parents to read to him on Christmas Eve. This book is so incredibly cute and fitting for the Navy. My little brother loved it and my dad who was also in the Navy had a few chuckles and enjoyed it too. I would highly recommend to Navy families, with little ones or those who just love their loved ones who are serving!

This was the cutest book and thought my dad would enjoy it. When he opened it Christmas day though, I had no idea the emotional effect it would have on him. He is a tough guy, but he could barely keep his composure reading it. I love that it was a touching story for him!
