About the author
Eric Carle is acclaimed and beloved as the creator of brilliantly illustrated and innovatively designed picture books for very young children. His best-known work, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has eaten its way into the hearts of literally millions of children all over the world and has been translated into more than 62 languages and sold over 41 million copies. Since the Caterpillar was published in 1969, Eric Carle has illustrated more than 70 books, many best sellers, most of which he also wrote.
Carle says: "With many of my books I attempt to bridge the gap between the home and school. To me home represents, or should represent; warmth, security, toys, holding hands, being held. School is a strange and new place for a child. Will it be a happy place? There are new people, a teacher, classmates - will they be friendly? I believe the passage from home to school is the second biggest trauma of childhood; the first is, of course, being born. Indeed, in both cases we leave a place of warmth and protection for one that is unknown. The unknown often brings fear with it. In my books I try to counteract this fear, to replace it with a positive message. I believe that children are naturally creative and eager to learn. I want to show them that learning is really both fascinating and fun."
Eric Carle has two grown-up children, a son and a daughter. He divides his time between the Florida Keys and the hills of North Carolina.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2018Eric Carle’s books are all wonderful, and this one is no exception! We were studying clouds with my 4 year old and he immensely enjoyed this book. It really helped him understand how clouds look differently and he was then able to go outside and find shapes. Great book!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2017This is a beautifully illustrated book. The concept is nice and encourages expanding the imagination. But the boardbook edition is much too small. A book with beautiful art such as this should come in a much larger format to display the beautiful art in all it's glory. I see that the dimensions on the paperback and hardback editions are much bigger. I wish the board book edition wasn't shrunk down so much. This would be wonderful in one of those boardbooks in oversized, giant format. My toddler is too young to have anything other than a boardbook, so I'll have to order the hardback when he's older.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2012Little Cloud has been following us around for many years now. I first read this to my children when they were two and they loved the story and all the things Little Cloud turns into. But over the years, it evolved into finding Little Cloud whenever we were out driving, at the park or in the yard. It really sparked their imaginations and they started to make up new, fanciful stories about Little Cloud and it even helped during a short "fear of storms" phase when it was remembered that it was just Little Cloud up there and there was nothing to be afraid of. We have really loved the Eric Carle books over the years and this is certainly no exception!

Can't wait to go outside and find our own Cloud shapes.
One comment, the text and page colour contrast is not great, difficult to read as a bedtime story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastico!
