I read this book, although it really is for a young child who may just be learning music, composers, etc. In that sense, the book would be great. There is a story to it re Beethoven as well as a lesson to be learned. I loved the book and have since given it to my friends' seven-year-old daughter who enjoyed reading it and wanted to know more! In that sense, the book is totally recommended for young children, not that interested adults, such as myself can't read and enjoy it also.

We are not a family that likes to listen to Audio books, but after reading the reviews on how much better the Audio CD was over the book I decided to give it a try and I'm SOOO glad we did! The music really does add so much more. I'd gotten the book from the library and it was flat compared to the CD. My boys (10, 8 and 4) surprised me this week by asking to listen to it again in the car, that's saying a lot! The story is also compelling since it is simple a series of real letters between a boy who had Beethoven as a renter while he wrote his 9th Symphony and his uncle. It helped my children gain a better understanding and a degree of compassion for Beethoven other books we read had not given them.
