- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2023My 5 year old loves this book. I love how it’s educational (I learned a lot myself from this book!) and also it’s a great little story to keep kid’s attention. Very happy I purchased it!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2021I’m the type of person that always reads reviews but never writes them. This book deserves a review. We have loved it. We have two nests on our house that we’re observing for our nature study. I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old and I read the book to them a few pages at a time and spread it out over several days. It has been so much fun to watch the book play out in real life. I love that the author presented real life situations (such as the cat, hawk, and owl being predators of robins). My kids were not traumatized knowing that other animals prey on robins. This book is factual and interesting with eye catching illustrations. In the back, it has a glossary and facts about robins that were very helpful. I would recommend it to anyone studying robins. I find my kids going through the book without me just to look at the pictures!

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2022The book was listed “used” and in great condition which was an honest description. I couldn’t even tell it had been opened before! Perfect condition and arrived safely and on time. Very pleased with purchase. It’s got tons of pages with detailed drawings and information. Great for parents to read to kids over 5.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2021Very, very, happy with this book! It has the most adorable illustrations and such great information about robins - how they live and their behaviors.
After the first one arrived, I ordered a second to give as a gift!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2017This book is funny and informative. My kids are 10, 9, 7 and 5. They all love it. The comic book bubbles on the baby robins are hilarious! A great book about the life cycle of birds. More "living" than your average library book about birds, but your kids will learn just as much if not more.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2020Excellent learning book for my granddaughter. The book is very informative.A bird lovers delight.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2017My grand daughter had a robin's nest on her window sill and loved the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2019We hope Ms. Christelow continues to write such wonderful nature books for kids. This is as helpful as a field guide, but the in-depth details focus on just one bird (robins). Information is realistically accurate, and easy enough for kids to understand. The story is told through two cute juvenile robins. They walk readers through their life cycle, and briefly touch upon many topics— their migratory routes, the mating process, habitat locations, predators and so much more. It’s not easy being a robin. The author doesn’t sugarcoat what can happen to them or just about any bird—animals invade nests, they might fall out of a tree or be eaten by cats or hawks. It’s all part of nature’s cycle, and our family appreciates the author’s candor. Thanks to this book, we have a much better understanding what it takes to be a robin. The author even includes a glossary, frequently asked questions and others sources to learn about robins.
Our kids are four and seven—they love this book for a variety of reasons. First, robins are birds they easily recognize in our yard every year. Second, the kids like the two little robin narrators—they bring a bit of lighthearted personality to each page, even when topics are quite serious. And third, the artwork is fantastic. Details are vividly graphic and they really help cement ideas, like just how much work it takes to build a nest or what preening involves. This book is requested often—no matter how many times it's read, the kids still pore over the intricate pictures. It’s refreshing to find a children’s nature book the actually informs in a very engrossing way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story and Learning Resource
Both my 7 year old and 5 year old loved this book. We had a nest of robins in our yard this year and repeatedly referred back to this picture book to learn more about them. One page is a bit upsetting for some young ones or sensitive children (one of the baby robins is scooped up by a hawk) but that page can easily be skipped without changing the story). I definitely recommend this book!
