A haunting and mesmerizing story about sisterhood, family, love, and loss by literary luminary Edwidge Danticat.

Giselle Boyer and her identical twin, Isabelle, are as close as sisters can be, even as their family seems to be unraveling. Then the Boyers have a tragic encounter that will shatter everyone's world forever.Giselle wakes up in the hospital, injured and unable to speak or move. Trapped in the prison of her own body, Giselle must revisit her past in order to understand how the people closest to her -- her friends, her parents, and above all, Isabelle, her twin -- have shaped and defined her. Will she allow her love for her family and friends to lead her to recovery? Or will she remain lost in a spiral of longing and regret?Untwine is a spellbinding tale, lyrical and filled with love, mystery, humor, and heartbreak. Award-winning author Edwidge Danticat brings her extraordinary talent to this graceful and unflinching examination of the bonds of friendship, romance, family, the horrors of loss, and the strength we must discover in ourselves when all seems hopeless.

i dont really trust products thag have the option of “buy new” or “by in good condition “ due to past issues but this did not disappoint!! and it came quicker than expected and in time for school(im a student and needed this book for a reading assignment) and no hassle at all

Edwidge Danticat's writing is like music set in prose- lyrical and fluid. Untwine was no different. Isabelle and Giselle's tales of lives interwoven and apart are just beautiful. But, without giving too much away, most of that beauty is found in passage after passage of tragedy.

This book is encapsulated sadness. Pages upon pages of palpable heartbreak. There were times I had to take a break from reading it in order to cry. I felt every loss I had ever experienced acutely while reading this book, and marveled at how a pain so different from anything I've ever felt could feel so familiar.

This is a book that is meant to not only be read, but cherished and savored. This is a book that will linger inside of you long after you've turned the final page.

Giz is a lovely narrator whose connection to her twin sister will have your heart at the very first page. It's true that this story is largely full of tragedy and trauma, but what stands out more are the relationships and healing. This is a fast read, I completed it nearly in one sitting, but you'll savor the last few pages, as everything ties together beautifully.

A very engaging writing style, simple and graphic. The story draws you in and keeps you there. It deals with depths of different types of relationships without being heavy and at the same time gives some intriguing glimpses into the rich Haitian background to the characters on an American stage. I became fascinated by the mysterious connection of identical twins and it has spurred me to do more reading on this topic.
