- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2024i dont really trust products thag have the option of “buy new” or “by in good condition “ due to past issues but this did not disappoint!! and it came quicker than expected and in time for school(im a student and needed this book for a reading assignment) and no hassle at all
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2015Edwidge Danticat's writing is like music set in prose- lyrical and fluid. Untwine was no different. Isabelle and Giselle's tales of lives interwoven and apart are just beautiful. But, without giving too much away, most of that beauty is found in passage after passage of tragedy.
This book is encapsulated sadness. Pages upon pages of palpable heartbreak. There were times I had to take a break from reading it in order to cry. I felt every loss I had ever experienced acutely while reading this book, and marveled at how a pain so different from anything I've ever felt could feel so familiar.
This is a book that is meant to not only be read, but cherished and savored. This is a book that will linger inside of you long after you've turned the final page.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2019I didnt realize that this was a childrens book. I was wsiyinf dor complicating things to ovcur that never did. However, i love the writing and I especially love the bonds that this book created among characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2020I found this to be engrossing, captivating, haunting, beautiful. I was disappointed to finish the book. The story of this dynamic and complex family unfolds in images, memories, flashbacks. Really, really fabulous novel!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2016Giz is a lovely narrator whose connection to her twin sister will have your heart at the very first page. It's true that this story is largely full of tragedy and trauma, but what stands out more are the relationships and healing. This is a fast read, I completed it nearly in one sitting, but you'll savor the last few pages, as everything ties together beautifully.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful storyteller
A very engaging writing style, simple and graphic. The story draws you in and keeps you there. It deals with depths of different types of relationships without being heavy and at the same time gives some intriguing glimpses into the rich Haitian background to the characters on an American stage. I became fascinated by the mysterious connection of identical twins and it has spurred me to do more reading on this topic.
