The Dinosaur Expert (Mr. Tiffin's Classroom Series) Hardcover – Picture Book, July 17, 2018
Purchase options and add-ons
Mr. Tiffin and his students are back in another picture book, and this time the focus is on dinosaur-loving Kimmy. During a field trip to the natural history museum, Kimmy is thrilled to share what she knows about the Stegosaurus and the Archaeopteryx and even the ginormous Titanosaurus. That changes when one of her classmates questions whether girls can be paleontologists. Kimmy starts to feel shy. What if they can't? What if no one wants to hear what she has to say? It will take some help from Mr. Tiffin--and from a famous scientist--for Kimmy to find her voice again.
Join Mr. Tiffin's class as they learn about dinosaurs big and small, feathered and scaly, winged and ocean-dwelling. And root for Kimmy, the dinosaur expert . . . who might just learn something about herself.

About the authors
Christopher-Award winning author Margaret McNamara has written more than three dozen books for young readers, among them the popular Fairy Bell Sisters chapter books, the Mr. Tiffin's Classroom picture books, and the Robin Hill School series for early readers. Many of the ideas for her books come from her daughter's school days, or her own.
Margaret has just completed work on ELIZA, THE STORY OF ELIZABETH SCHUYLER HAMILTON, about the woman who co-founded the first orphanage in the state of New York (and who was married to Alexander Hamilton). ELIZA, which releases in October, 2018, is illustrated by Esme Shapiro, and features an introduction by Phillipa Soo, who originated the role of Eliza in Hamilton: An American Musical.
"Margaret McNamara is a pen-name," says the author, who writes for adult readers under her real name, Brenda Bowen. "I use the 'Margaret McNamara' to honor my maternal grandmother. The real Margaret grew up a very long time ago in County Clare in Ireland, and she was one of the few girls in her village who could read and write."
Margaret and her family live in New York City, and spend as much time as they can during the summer in Maine.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2022Got this for my favorite 7 year old -- she loves dinosaurs. The story has a definite feminist message and is delightfully told and illustrated.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2019A new favorite. We love this series! And girls can be paleontologists, too!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2019I Loved this STEM picture book - the message was great. I loved the information about dinosaurs, the teacher, and how Kimmy gained confidence. I really liked the illustrations too.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2018I first heard about this book while reading through a fb thread about helping our kids understand equality among genders. What a great message and experience this author has to share with our kids!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 20184.5 stars. I loved this book about dinosaurs and a girl who loves everything about them. One aspect of the story is whether girls can be scientists/paleontologists (and the answer is a resounding YES, no matter what one of the kids in the book says). Loved the message and the care the teacher shows to his student! I love the whole Mr. Tiffin's Classroom series.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2019I bought this book for my 4-year-old boy who just likes all the dinosaur books. He didn't have any fixed opinions about gender difference - and this book just introduced the gender idea new to him... my mistake. After reading this book, he kept asking me if he can be a scientist too, and also joking that only Jake and himself can be scientists.. (Jake is the boy who teases the girl that she cannot be a scientist as a girl)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book
Perfect if you have a dinosaur loving girl who is sometimes afraid to share her knowledge. This book does a great job of showing that girls can be scientists to and that you should never let anyone dismiss your knowledge and what you have to offer.
