From the Author

I wrote this story for my beautiful black German shepherd Luna. How I miss her now that she has gone. The only question I have left to ask her is, "When will I see you again, sweet angel?"

Beautifully designed book that brings attention to our curiosity about dogs’ thoughts and feelings. Perfect for children of all ages and a pleasure for the grown-ups who read along to discuss mutual interest in the gamut of practical to existential thoughts about dogs and each other. Highly recommend for gift-giving to any child you know who loves a dog.

This book was clearly written by someone who deeply loves her dog. Sweet rhyming text and adorable illustrations depicting a girl and her dog flow across the pages of this nicely paced picture book. The girl has many questions she wishes her dog could answer, questions that every dog owner will relate to. This is a great choice for dog lovers of all ages.

If You Could Ask Your Dog One Question is a cute book with wonderful illustrations. As an adult, I enjoyed the thoughtful wording and adorable pictures that went with each question. With each page, I took a second to think about the question this young girl was contemplating asking her dog and realized that her questions were thoughtful and interesting. Anyone who has a pet has asked their pet these questions.

This is a children’s book and I am excited to add it to a first-year teacher’s library for her to share with her students as they embark on their learning adventure.

If You Could Ask Hour Dog One Question is a sweet story about a little girl pondering on what her dog is thinking. The rhythm of the rhyme is decent (which is more than can be said of most rhyming picture books these days), and the illustrations are lovely. I would recommend this to dog lovers.

While I am much more of a cat person, I feel the premise of this book will resonate and ring true to any animal lover and pet owner. All of these questions the little girl wants to ask her dog are all the same ones, in one way or another, that I want to ask my cat too. I think this book is quite precious, it was a very enjoyable read for myself even as an adult. It might also be a great way to teach kids about empathy and understanding it. These questions that we all so badly want to ask our little furry friends who can’t speak and understand in-depth what we’re saying to them in our native tongues, all stem from our great love and want to care for them in the best way possible. Because we as owners care so deeply about them, we want to make sure they’re okay and healthy, but it’s much harder to get that assurance when we can’t truly “communicate” with them through our words. I think that reason alone is one of the main ways we start to develop a sense of empathy. Overall, definitely recommend this book for anyone with young kids— whether for the potential lesson in empathy or just because it’s a really cute book!!!

My school aged daughter and I read this book before school one morning. We giggled reading about Luna’s nicknames that were mentioned on the dedication page

From my daughter, she liked how it’s about a dog and a girl who is wondering about what question she could ask if her dog could answer her. She thought the girl looked like her and was around the same age, so she was easy to relate to. The dog is much bigger than my dog but is very cute.

Every page shows a different picture that goes along with what question she might want to ask. I love the illustrations. The shading and page design shows the mood of the story, which she liked.

It was easy to read. Her favorite page was the one where the dog was talking to the other dogs and the poodle was sassy. She liked how it shows things that actual dogs do (zoomies, scratching and stealing things).

This book makes me think about what question I would ask. I would read another story by this author.

This is a very cute and adorable book. What I like about this book is that it is a thinking book. It makes you look at your pet whether it's a dog, cat or bird and think what are they thinking. Author Kim Messina is a great storyteller. She creates a rememberful rhythm. It is easy to read out loud and for little children to understand. Natalia Pavliuk did a wonderful job illustrating the book. It is so beautiful. I would recommend this book to those with little children. I loved it.
