The COVID-19 pandemic was a monumental, global event. In many ways, even though threats of the virus kept us physically apart, it brought us closer than ever. We endured a shared, universal experience of being far away from our friends and family and a time that upended every aspect of our lives. Knowing that we will be talking about this pandemic for generations, "Far Apart, Together at Heart" is a way to share with young children what life was like during that time. The book features a diverse group of characters as well as various family structures.

From children who were young to babies born during the pandemic, it will help start the conversation and help them understand how we kept one another safe and how we went about our daily lives differently than before. We couldn't go to our favorite places--like museums, zoos, playgrounds--and we couldn't visit our families and friends. The COVID-19 pandemic was a scary time for everyone around the world. In many ways, even though the virus kept us apart, it also brought us closer together. We will be talking about this pandemic for generations. "Far Apart, Together at Heart" shares what we did to keep each other safe, from wearing masks and social distancing to staying home and talking to family members online.

As an early childhood educator, and a mom of a toddler, this book is absolutely wonderful! Perfect way to help children understand what is going on in the world.

Wonderfully written children’s book about how lives changed during COVID but love of family and friends stayed solid.

Kelli is my incredibly talented younger sister. During the peak of the covid lockdown, we welcomed our son, Luca, into the world, and to whom the book is in part dedicated. Aunt Kelli beautifully put into words what we all went through during that scary time. She successfully highlights the positive aspects and small, fun moments while providing an accurate description of the actions we took to keep each other safe. As a mom, I am so grateful for her words and her ability to document one of the most significant points in history that deeply affected us. We look forward to having in-depth conversations as Luca grows to help him understand the historical context into which he was born. As an educator, there are multiple aspects of the book that I appreciate. First, the glossary is very helpful and accurate. Also, The rhyming words add a pleasant cadence and aids with phonemic awareness. Finally, there are wonderful representations of a variety of cultures, family structures, and differently abled individuals. Well done, Aunt Kelli!!!!

I bought this book for my niece and loved it so much that I bought a few more copies for other kiddos in my life. It does such a great job explaining the crazy past few years -- something I've struggled to explain myself -- while highlighting the positive outcomes from the pandemic. And the illustrations are incredible! I especially love the diversity. Buy this for your kids!

It was a Herculean task to try and boil down what happened these past nearly two (?!) years for adults to understand — and it turns out that explaining it to our children is a great place to start. It removes all the angst, the othering, the politics, and just boils down our true shared experience across the globe. Kelliann's craft and diction is nuanced, delicate, and somehow a delight, considering the subject matter. The illustrations are stunning and is clearly informed by our continuing education in how and why representation matters. This is a must-buy for all the Gen-C/Zoomer children and parents in your life!

I love having this book to read to my daughter—not just for entertainment but to help explain to her what life was like when she was born. So many children living through the pandemic have been too young to make sense of it, but through this book they can better understand both the sacrifices people made but the simple joys and appreciation so many discovered. Kelliann is an amazing author and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!

A helpful book for families. Our two boys have asked us to read this to them many times already. The clear writing and fun pictures keep them following along… and the story helps them understand why things have been the way they have recently. It’s refreshing to read, as a parent, a relevant children's story.
