PreS-K-Little Owl is a charming creature, curious about the world around him. This book finds him happily flying over the forest where he lives. He sees Hedgehog down below gazing at a mushroom patch on the forest floor and glides down to visit with him. Hedgehog marvels at the wonder of mushrooms and loves everything about them, making Little Owl think about what it is that he loves. As he continues his night flight, he sees so many things that make him happy, from the fireflies to the frogs and the bears. He loves them all. Although he never thought about it before, he has more love around him than he knew. He loves the butterflies and moths, and in a conversation with his friend, Racoon, realizes that they have a lot of love in their lives. What an epiphany! It will help young readers learn that, if they take the time to think, they, too, are surrounded by love. The writing is spare and evocative, and the art is striking. Against a night setting, the colors of the animals jump off the page in all their beauty. Children will love the characters and the beautifully illustrated story. VERDICT All libraries would benefit from adding this book to their collections. Divya Srinivasan is the author and illustrator of the picture books Little Owl's Night, Little Owl's Day, Little Owl's Snow, and Octopus Alone, and she illustrated the picture book Cinnamon, written by Neil Gaiman. Her illustrations have appeared in New Yorker magazine, and she has done work for This American Life, They Might Be Giants, Sundance Channel, Sufjan Stevens, and Weird Al Yankovic, among others. Divya was also an animator on the film Waking Life. More of Divya's work can be seen at www.pupae.com. She lives in Austin, Texas.

This is such an extraordinarily beautiful book—lyrical, thought-provoking, and lovely. My daughter loves it and so do I. We love all the little owl books, so it’s hard to say which I like best, but this one is so unique, and beautiful in its own way.

We have two young kids and own every book in this series. We preordered a copy of Little Owls Love as a Christmas gift.

Little Owls Day, Little Owls Night and Little Owls Snow are easily the best in the series. Those three are SO GOOD with colorful illustrations that our kids enjoy, and easy-to-follow text that at times reads like poetry.

Unfortunately, Little Owls Love is a clumsy imitation of its predecessors. The illustrations are still good, but feel iterative of previous. The text is clunky and uninspired. There are a few cute lines, but overall the book is just not well executed. Should have been more heavily edited / revised before publishing.

Check out others in this series if you haven’t already.

All the little owl books are profoundly charming, and this one is not an exception. We don't like it as much as the first three, but it's still one of the better children's books among our many. Octopus Alone by this author is also highly recommended.
