- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2006My two daughters (ages 2 and 4) request this book be read--at least once a day (along with all the other "Ready-to-Read" books we bought for them). They especially get excited when it's time to go under the sea with Dora. I think this book is probably geared toward the preschool/beginning grade school set. It has big words and colorful pictures. The stories are simple and not too long.
Certain words have little "pictographs" with the word that it's for directly underneath it in smaller print. I suppose this is to help the child learn to read these certain words. Since my daughters are still pretty young (the oldest is now just learning the sounds different letters make; she already can recognize all the letters), we haven't really tried to use these little pictures in that way. Although, we've read this story so many times to them that they "read along" by reciting from memory certain parts of the story. All Dora the Explorer books are great fun for the kids because it involves them in the story much like the TV show does.
I highly recommend it.

Would recommend it to anyone who has young children.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2012This book is not even a book but can only be considered a pamphlet. It consists of only a few pages and it really cost too much for the price. You will be fooled to expect a book maybe at least half an inch thick but it's not.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2007My daughter and I love to read this book together. It is nice and short. My daughter is also learning to spell because of the simple and repetitive words in the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2005Pirate Pig is sad because he lost his treasure. You see, it fell off his boat and into the sea. Dora and Boots volunteer to help Pirate Pig venture down into the sea with the help of a submarine. While underwater, they encounter King Crab ruling over his sand castle, a fish with spots, a starfish, funny clownfish, a green turtle, yellow seahorses and other ocean dwellers.
Dora, Boots, and Pirate Pig must also deal with giant lobsters with snapping claws and (of course) Swiper the fox who is out to get the treasure for himself.
Dora and the Deep Blue Sea is a Level 1 Reader that has pictures substituted for some of the words (although the words *are* there in smaller print under the picture). Geared towards ages 4-6, this is a great book for beginning readers. There is also some color recognition, too, so your child can learn to spot how the color "yellow" looks or the color "green".
My son really enjoys this book and he's learning how to read with helpful books from the Ready-To-Read series by Simon Spotlight. Unlike other Dora books geared towards older readers, this book contains no Spanish words but rather focuses on word recognition, increased vocabulary, and longer sentences.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2013The kids love this book. However when I received it I was surprised how few pages this book has. It is probably 10-15 pages.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2006My son absolutely loves this book and so does his 2-year old cousin. He enjoys looking at the pictures to "guess" the word and it makes him feel like he's really reading the book. This is his favorite book and wants to read it every day.
