Time to Say Bye-Bye Hardcover – February 16, 2012

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 96 ratings

A perfect picture book for toddlers on the go!

All toddlers live by the pleasure principle. For them, fun times always end too soon. So often they either turn a deaf ear to the words "It's time to say bye-bye" or simply throw a tantrum. What is the solution? In this warm-hearted picture book, Maryann Cocca-Leffler follows a toddler from morning to bedtime, showing that all saying "byebye" really means is that you're ready to say "hello" to the next fun thing on your "agenda." With a bare minimum of words, and playful artwork, this is one of those rare read-alouds perfect for very young children.

Review

Praise for Time to Say Bye-Bye by Maryann Cocca-Leffler:

"...vibrant, sweet, watercolor illustrations ... along with a spare text, make this an enjoyable read-aloud for the youngest of listeners." —
School Library Journal

"This would be a great addition to a babies' laptime, particularly if the little ones were encouraged to say/wave bye-bye along with the story." —
BCCB

"So effective is the delivery here that parents may find themselves saying bye-bye to things they'd never imagined talking to." —
Kirkus

"The appropriately short text captures the rhythm of the child's day ... Bright and sunny, the mixed-media illustrations create an appealing world full of recognizable things." —

I've been writing and illustrating children's books for more than 30 years and have published over 60 books. I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in illustration. My Italian childhood has inspired several books. The first book I wrote and illustrated was "Wednesday is Spaghetti Day". My books "Bus Route to Boston" and "Clams All Year" are family stories which I hold dear to my heart. Recent books include: "The Belonging Tree", "Same Way Ben", and "The Power of Yet". "Janine" and "Janine and the Field Day Finish" are books inspired by my daughter and her experience has a child with disabilities; (www.Janinesparty.com). My most popular series are the "LET IT" Books; LET IT RAIN & LET IT SHINE, LET IT FALL & LET IT SNOW. Please keep checking my website to learn more about my books, school visits and upcoming projects. I live and work in Maine where I am working on my next new book!

(I look forward to hearing from you.)

Cute, but not enough
The book is very cute and very well illustrated. Said that, I don’t think the translation is 100% accurate and the story is way too simple.

Cute story, beautiful illustration. It is simple enough for babies and young toddlers to follow it. It was my kid's favorite for a long time!

Exactly what I wanted! This book teaches kids to deal with change and separation by saying "bye-bye" to everything and everyone... or "night-night." Perfect way to teach kids that even though you are enjoying something right now, its time to say bye-bye and move on to the next thing. I only wish this book was offered in a board book.

I love the books by this author, though maybe I enjoy it more than my children. We also have a ton of books, so some get over looked for awhile. The simple story and illustrations are very nice. It's a paperback. I wish they made Maryann Cocca-Leffler's books as board books. We also have "Let it Fall," "Let it Snow," and just ordered "Let it Rain."

An excellent book in two languages, recommended, fully illustrated (and nicely done) with a substantial storyline for children to learn and follow.
