I Do Not Like Yolanda Hardcover – Picture Book, March 16, 2021
Purchase options and add-ons
When Bianca gets stuck in Yolanda's line at the post office, she expects the worst: scowls, claws, teeth . . .
This is what she gets for having a five-letter day.
She might not survive . . .
Or will Yolanda surprise her?
This hilarious story explores fear and kindness, in that order, when Bianca decides to overcome her terror and ask Yolanda very nicely how her weekend was... and learns that Yolanda is not scary, she's a delight! A truly lovely book about questioning your assumptions and reaching out to another person, no matter how scary they might be.

Review
"Young readers will get caught up in the illustrations, and the idiosyncratic friendship may grow on them. This offbeat, intergenerational story celebrates connection." —Kirkus Reviews
“I Do Not Like Yolanda is stamped with quirky details within recognizable experiences. It’s a true original.” —Imaginary Elevators

About the author
Zoey Abbott was THAT kid - the one that was afraid of almost everything.
So, it makes sense that Zoey’s characters come up against their biggest fears - and always come out on top - with newfound skills, allies and understanding.
Praise:
"...appealing and accessible protagonists who evoke some of the great friendships of children’s literature. Gentle and effective." ― Kirkus Reviews
"Whether an endorsement for exposure therapy or a reassurance that fears are better handled with a friend over tea, this story has consolation to offer to the easily scared." ―The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
"[A] visually striking allegory about the dismay and jealousy a child may feel over change — and this young protagonist’s triumph gives the tale a sense of dark, unexpected gratification." —Publishers Weekly
★ “A book that will inspire readers to find their own pen pals, a good book, and a new friend.”

Great book for engaging kids with many relevant and interesting topics.
Veneta Stoyanova, MD, child and adolescent psychiatrist
The book "Oh No, David," is fine. Davids have each other. Davids have lots of each other.
I suppose the author wanted to help people learn tolerance, but this book will do the opposite.
Authors, if you are writing about someone disliked, make it Jennifer, Jacob, Kaitlin, or Matt. Those kids can stand together.
