Purchase options and add-ons

Hop in for a droll read-aloud vrooming with sound words and intricate illustrations of all things that go.

What’s this? A huge traffic jam? But everyone’s in a hurry! There’s the family in the paneled station wagon (
brrrm, brrrmm), packed to the roof rack with gear for the beach. There’s the be-hatted Duke and Duchess, out for a drive in their ornate Rolls Royce (whisper, whisper). Not to mention a yellow school bus bursting with kids in beanies (chug, chug), an overheating race car (bang, hissssss . . .), an ice-cream truck ("Mamma mia! My ice cream is melting!"), and other vehicles revving to go. Who — or what — could be holding them all up?

Editorial Reviews

Review

The cars are chock-full of details, from the complicated workings of the street sweeper to the crank on the front of the Rolls. There are plenty of amusing details too, including two very mischievous seagulls. As a bonus, children are encouraged to find 15 hidden snails; it’s not easy. A fun read-aloud and a great book to pore over again and again.
—School Library Journal

The pages practically vibrate with eye-popping colors held in place with a lively, sure-handed line. A number of visual surprises, including fifteen craftily hidden snails, invite further study, and the predictably patterned, onomatopoeic verses encourage audience participation. ... This is a nifty companion to Bee’s previous transportation ode, "And the Train Goes..."

I discovered this story a few years ago at the local library. My students (pre-K) really love this book and I love to read it, and so I finally bought a hardbound copy for the school. The illustrations remind me a lot of "Yellow Submarine" and I love doing voices for each of the characters.

Another great William Bee book. And great to hear a toddler use the word "trodden"!

Jolly drawings (with hidden snails for extra fun), good opportunity for read-aloud silliness (because of all the different sounds the vehicles make), and a surprise ending for good measure. I read it aloud to my 2-year-old grand, and she loved it -- as did her 12-year-old brother, who appreciated the clear and playful art and finding the snails. Fun to have a book that makes her giggle!

Great Book for kids! If you have this, another task is to have your kid look for the "snail" on the pages -- The artist has a tendency to draw in a little snail on almost every page, in both this book and "And the Trains Go" as well -- Another wonderful book for 2-3y kids.

Love the William Bee books. Definitely British - and there’s a snail to find on every page.

Boring. Weird 70s illustrations. My 3 year old son loves it, but I am trying to sneak it into the donate-to-Salvation-Army box.

This is a great fun book. Illustrations are beautiful and engaging. My 2 yo son loves it. I have read it about 40 million times already.

This is a great book. Something for all ages. Fun for the parent to read - which is important. And there is a hidden message at te beginning and some snails to find throughout the book for slightly older children. My 2 year old loves it.
