Hush, hush! Rush, rush! When Baby cries, her family and neighbors try to stop her tears and help her to sleep. But all their rushing and hushing, tickling and rocking, and feeding and burping can't stop Baby's tears. Roy, the old retriever, knows what Baby needs to fall asleep―her little white sheep! In this rhythmic and soothing lullaby of a story, doggy knows best. Good boy, Roy!

Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Review
“The humorous cumulative text invites participation . . . Yelchin's mixed-media illustrations are fun and full of life. . . . Beautifully composed, each page propels the story to a climactic spread filled with hula hooping, magic tricks, juggling, soap bubbles, and music!” ―School Library Journal
“The amusing illustrations of popular animals and the jaunty rhythm and rhyme will make this a favorite.” ―Kirkus Reviews on Who Ate All the Cookie Dough?
“Sometimes the full savor of a book only comes through silent absorption. . . . Children old enough to read will get the full force of the harmonious combination of Lee Wardlaw's wry verse and Eugene Yelchin's witty illustration.” ―The Wall Street Journal on Won Ton
“Yelchin's bright, graphite and gouache illustrations are almost impressionistic; they catch the eye and complement the text well.” ―School Library Journal on Seeds, Bees, Butterflies, and More!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2019I got this book from the library to read with my 3 year old niece when she was visiting. It was such a hit (she LOVED that she could "read along" with the repetition) that I have ordered it to give as gifts for other kids her age.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2020One of my favorite kids books. We got it out of the library and enjoyed it so much we bought it!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2016What a fun and funny book! Very rhythmic and you can use some great voices to exaggerate the written sounds. I can't wait to read this to my grandchild.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2019My son loves this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2016My 2 year old granddaughter loves this simple story. She needs to hear it every night
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2021Love the story but the book was damaged when it finally came in
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2018As a teacher, dog owner and mom of two (3 and 1yo), I love this book. Good rhythm, humorous premise, fun pictures, and not too many words per page for the younger ones. We read it so many times at the library that we finally bought our own copy!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2016Eh. I may have just had too-high of hopes for this book, being a big-dog owner waiting on their first child. But this was just...pretty boring. The idea of a family being unable to understand why a child is crying, while the dog is completely aware, seems cute enough. But the text just didn't seem to flow all that well. I was more impratient for them to pay attention to the dog than amused at the misunderstanding.
Perhaps others will enjoy this more, but I do see that the Goodreads reviews are averaging about 3-stars, as well. Which means a significant number of people liked this even less.
Try it from your library before a purchase. But for me, I'll be keeping an eye out for other books about dogs and babies. The one I want has to be out there....
