Editorial Reviews

Review

A USA Today bestselling series!

Praise for Eva's Treetop Festival (Owl Diaries #1):

"Bright and colorful digital illustrations, large type, frequent speech bubbles and a familiar story make this accessible to emerging readers... This series promises to fill a niche for [new readers]. Keep flapping, Eva!" -- Kirkus Reviews

"Appealing visuals (the text and art are set against the lined pages of Eva's diary), punny dialogue, a few pratfalls, and Eva's unflagging enthusiasm make for lively reading." -- Publishers Weekly

"The colorful, adorable illustrations will be irresistible to young readers. The simple text interspersed with speech bubble dialogue will engage beginning and intermediate readers alike. This appealing chapter book will be a nice addition to a library's young reader section." -- Library Media Connection

Rebecca Elliott

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

When Rebecca was six, she precociously pronounced that she wanted to be 'an artist and a writer'. After a ‘brief’ detour from this career plan involving wanting to be Stephen Fry, a degree in philosophy and a dull office job, she fulfilled her dream in 2001 when she became a full time children's book illustrator. Ultimately proving, if nothing else, that once her mind is made up she really can't be bothered to change it.

Since then she has become an award-winning and bestselling author of over 30 books for children, including her ongoing series Owl Diaries (Scholastic US) which has sold 6 million copies worldwide and upcoming YA novel 'Pretty Funny' (Penguin Random House).

If she's not story-making Rebecca can be found reading, podcasting with her comedian best friend, drumming or singing in her band, making something (normally a mess), or just hanging out in sunny Suffolk with her husband, gorgeous children, moronic chickens and sarcastic cat Bernard.

My girls love Rebecca Elliott so we pre ordered this long ago. When we read it for the first time, I was moved to tears reading about the merbaby who was born different with only one fin. The message was beautiful - instead of offering solutions to "fix" someone different, the unicorns learn that the best help they can offer is to treat her with love and find ways to support her mom.
My daughter was born different and upon doing some research, I discovered that Rebecca Elliott's was as well. (She wrote "Just because" and "sometimes" about her daughter with cerebral palsy.)
If you have a different kid or want to impart some empathy, or just love unicorns and mermaids, this is a great book!

my daughter loves these books and reads them at least once a week. The fun comic book style reading keeps her engaged and she loves Bo and all his problems that he has to figure out in every book. The book jumps from 3rd person diary entries to 2nd person style reading. The art work is cute.
I’d say these books are good kids in the 2nd-3rd grade range of reading.

This series is wonderful for newer or reluctant readers. My 9yo CAN read fairly well but she doesn’t enjoy it. But with this series, she finishes it in a day and begs for more! Really cute stories, well made, and fun.

My 6 year old loves these books. They’re easy for her to read, have nice pictures, and give her the illusion of reading a “chapter book”. We own all of them and can’t wait for the next book to come out. Very similar to the Owl Diaries series.
