Check out my newest book WIGGLE YOUR TOES! A Book to pull, fluff, and wiggle!

I have always been interested in folk art from around the world, Indian miniatures, Mexican ceramics, fabrics, Chagall, Matisse, children's art, and primitive painting, and I love to paint and experiment with pattern, texture, collage and color. The careers I've had--as a costume designer, a quilt maker, a fabric artist, and a graphic designer--have taken all these interests into account. Looking back, I can see that these passions and career choices have played a large part in influencing me to become a children's book author and illustrator.

But most importantly, it was after my husband and I adopted our daughter from Guatemala that I was inspired to do a children's book for her. My first book, Over the Moon, was the story of that magical experience of welcoming our daughter Lena into our lives. I painted, I drew, I collaged, and I wrote, and after working very hard... a beautiful book was born! Twenty-two books later, my daughter--now fourteen years old--still is an inspiration for me.

I am fascinated by babies and little kids. The simplest words and gestures can make them laugh. Sometimes standing in line at the supermarket and watching kids in grocery carts, my best ideas are born.

I am fascinated by people from all over the world and what they look like and how they live and the differences that make us all unique.

When an idea pops into my head I ask these questions:

Will a child want to read this book?

Will a parent want to read this book with their child?

Will this book make a parent and child feel something?

Is there something visual here that will hold a child's interest?

Will a child see something in a different way after reading this book?

If the answer is yes, then I know I'm on the right track.

I am very lucky to get to do what I do. Everyday I go into my studio and have fun. Don't get me wrong, some days are very frustrating. Sometimes the colors are all wrong and the words don't sound right. But after I work at it for a while...and try to do it a different way...and think...and change the words or colors...and try some more...suddenly, there it is--a great page of writing, or a great illustration. And nothing is more satisfying than that.

They will love it so much you will get sick of reading it!!
Each page has a kitty on it and she loves finding the kitty. She reads it by herself too. Not really she is 1. But she will sit with the book and flip the pages. This book is read at least 3-4 times a day!!!

This is a lovely book for baby. It's bigger in size than most of the other baby board books I own but it's not too big so that my 7 month old can still hold it on her own and chew on the corners. The prose is rhythmic and it introduces babies at a young age to numbers and counting. Babies love being read the same book over and over and there are enough pages in this book that you as the adult reading it won't get bored. It introduces you to the baby on the first page, then on each addtional page, it counts down from 10 to one, then ends on the last page. So there are at least 12 pages of story line to flip through. The illustrations are beautiful and my baby loves looking at all the colorful pictures. Well done. I hightly recommend this book and the other books by the same author "Counting Kisses" and "Mommy Hugs".

Who doesn't like hugs from daddy? Hugs from any loved one, even.

The author, Karen Katz, has written a book about love. Certainly about hugs, but that means love. A baby when it wakes up is usually greeted with a hug and some kisses, or many kisses , many hugs. And, on through the day, hugs and kisses are given by daddy, in this case. Hugs are one of the most enjoyable forms of life, and baby knows when he us hugged by his mommy that lee shines through. During the day, you can count the hugs, and daddy hugs are particularly beautiful and meaningful. A child who is hugged will always remember the love that shines through. Have you been hugged by your daddy recently?

Parents/teachers will enjoy reading the book to their children. Children will enjoy the soothing lying tone of voice test comes through when reading this book. The illustrations are lovely, vivid and colorful, and depict the day of hugs from daddy.

    Highly Recommended. prisrob 07-25-15

I don't think you can put a price on the sweetness that is watching your husband read this book to your little baby. Daddy hugs is just very sweet I know that we will be using it when our babies a toddler and he's trying to grab this book, I know there will be kisses happening during the reading of this book, I am just that is good enough to make me smile. The illustrations are so beautiful the book is not so lengthy that your child will get frustrated if you read it before going to bed. I really like it, I would definitely purchase it again given the choice.

I just had a baby shower for my second child, and I didn't want my husband to feel left out. So he got Daddy Hugs as a present just for him. It is a well made, colorful board book. My 2.5 year old daughter really enjoyed reading it with her dad. I like how it counts, and you give hugs in creative ways. It is very interactive and sweet. A great way for Daddy's to read and bond with their babies!

Our child enjoys the cat on every page and the illustrations. The content seems geared more for babies than for a toddler. This means we change the wording a bit. Examples: Rather than not being afraid of the dark - we say it's time to turn off the light. Rather than learning to walk - we use walking the balance beam at the gym, etc. You can make the story work for your child with a little time and coordination between readers (so every person who might read it knows to alter the story). Very nice to have a book centered around daddy.

My son enjoyed reading this book to his little one. It is colorful with good pictures a little one can relate to. My son loved the concept of a Daddy being important in a little ones life and the significance of hugs and affection. A good read for little ones. My son said this Daddy liked it to read with his baby girl.

We bought all of Karen Katz book and this is by far our baby's favorite. We make it into a little song. It teaches counting and actions. One I am so glad your my baby hug! The other day we found her sitting in the chair reading along by herself and giving herself a little hug and clapping her hands. Bright colours and easy words make this an easy fun read.
