Jonah and Chip have barely adjusted to the discovery that they are actually the missing children of history when a time purist named JB sends them, along with Katherine and Alex, hurtling back in time to 1483. JB promises that if they can fix history, they can all return to their present-day lives. Now Chip and Alex have to reclaim their true identities—as the king and prince of England. But things get complicated when the four discover that according to the records, the princes were murdered. How can they fix history if it means that Chip and Alex will die? Margaret Peterson Haddix is the author of Found, the bestselling Shadow Children series, Uprising, Running Out of Time, and many more

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5–8—This book begins where Found (S & S, 2008) left off: Chip, Jonah, Katherine, and Alex are falling through time. They find themselves in 1483 in the Tower of London where the famously imprisoned princes, Edward and Richard, are fearfully awaiting their fates. As was revealed at the end of Found, Chip and Alex are really Edward and Richard, spirited away to our current century by time travelers in a misguided attempt to save their lives. The four fumble through attempts to figure out how to save them from their historically presumed deaths. While the children know next to nothing about the real princes, they have a firsthand chance to watch history in the making, all the while hoping that they won't alter time too much and end up getting the princes killed anyway. Haddix ratchets up the tension here, letting it mount in moment-by-moment near misses and escapes. The kids' futuristic helper, JB, tries his best to keep them from causing too much damage to time, showing himself to be on their side. Full of interesting historical details, but muddy with the science of time travel, this is a fantastic follow-up to the first book. Haddix even poses an interesting "what if" about the real fates of Edward and Richard. By the book's end, Jonah still doesn't know who he really is, and readers will be just as anxious as he is to find out. The next installment can't come quickly enough.—Necia Blundy, Marlborough Public Library, MA END

I grew up on a farm outside Washington Court House, Ohio. As a kid, I liked to read a lot, and was also involved in 4-H, various bands and choirs (I played flute and piano), church youth group, the school newspaper, and a quiz-bowl type team. I was pretty disastrous as an athlete, although I did run track one year in high school. After graduating from Miami University (of Ohio), I worked as a newspaper copy editor in Fort Wayne, Indiana; a newspaper reporter in Indianapolis; and a part-time community college instructor and freelance writer in Danville, Illinois, before my first book was published. I've moved around a lot as an adult, having also lived in Luxembourg (during a college semester abroad) and in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Several years ago, I moved back to Ohio with my husband and kids; we now live in Columbus, Ohio. My husband trains investigative journalists, and my kids are in high school, so there's always a lot going on around our house.

Margaret Haddix is a master of suspense for middle school students. I am a sixth grade teacher, and my students cannot get enough of her books. This includes even my more reluctant readers. Once they begin reading these books, they beg for the next book in the series --- a true dream come true for any parent or teacher. I would recommend any of these books for a free choice read to engage children in the love of reading.

I was bored so I picked up several books and read the first couple of pages. I was bored with the first 2-3 that I picked up. When I got Found I was almost about to give up looking for a book. I began reading it and could NOT stop reading it! I went home and read it a few hours and was done with it the next day. I went to Amazon and ordered SENT again, I was so hooked! I couldn't put the book down. I had to find out what was going to happen. I was never bored reading any of it. Haddix is an amazing writer. I had not read any of her books, but now I'm going to order the rest of her books. I've been telling everyone I know about he book, trying to get them to read it.

It is an amazing Book it keeps this series going .I think it has a ton of suspicion. I suggest that people should read these books in order for you to understand what is happening. So do not read them in random order if you do it will make no sense.:) by Owen ps this review is very long

The second book in Haddix's series rejoins the characters in the 15th century. While the end of the first book propelled the reader anxiously into book two, the reader's arrival there is anticlimactic. The plot becomes weighted with somewhat confusing scenes of tracer beings and historical anomalies. I am even more certain now that this text does not meet its identified audience. The book is marketed to readers who are too young for it. While the characters are 12, the text's readers must be several years older to deal with the plot twists and complex explanations. It is this complexity and its resulting confusion that makes the book a disappointment. The need for these explanations into tracers and historical records does not allow the reader to come out of book one and hit the ground running as hoped. I can only look forward to book three and anticipate that it will move more rapidly and suspensefully because it will not require any further explanations of tracers and Elucidators.

I used this book for a 6th grade quick novel study. We used the audio of the book for readers who needed support and to vary the reading experience. They identified with the characters and loved the suspense. Several of the students are now reading their way through the rest of the series. Margaret Peterson Haddix uses the time traveler theme creatively.

Bought this for my nephew as he loves the series and he just plowed right through the book and onto the next one.

My fourth grade granddaughter loves this series of books. Margaret Haddix is a most engaging author. Her books appeal to both reluctant readers, voracious readers, and those in-between. For this summer's reading, my granddaughter and I will be reading Haddix's Running Out of Time, which has so many opportunities for discussion and broadening her knowledge base about several topics.

I bought this book for my younger sister and she absolutely adores it, even more so because it's the original cover. My sister and I share the disinterest for history since we unfortunately had teachers who didn't make it interesting. However my The Missing Book series is able to perfectly blend the different mysteries that are found in history and fictional entertainment for the reader. Shipping was fast and the condition of the book was satisfactory.
