For me, the worse part of this book was the drawing of the Don Quixote on the first page. Don Quixote is from Spain, but he is wearing a Mexican sombrero and zarape! Besides, there is no story at all, just words with no connection.

This is a great little board book. I love that it is bilingual (Spanish & English) and an adorable introduction to a classic story. The book is meant for very young children who are beginning to learn language. It does not tell the story of Don Quixote, but it does use highlights of the story to introduce new words and the story's characters to your baby (example of pages includes Don Quixote, Sancho Panza, Windmills, etc.). The pictures are lovely and my son (9 months) loves looking at them.

BabyLit PRIMERS are primers. Presumably BabyLit Story Books are story books. This is a primer which is meant to teach.

This focus on Spanish. It creatively embeds elements of Don Quixote without trying to tell the story. This book is styled so the Spanish word is on one page and the English is on the next. It even translates words within the picture like the titles of books along the spines. Again it has elements of the original story without attempting at all to tell a baby friendly version.

I love these! They are exactly what I expected.

I thought there would be a bit of a story here, but it's just pictures with the English word on the left page and the Spanish word on the right. Man, books, armor, horse, lady, windmills, goat, friend, castle, and bed. I do like that the pictures of friend, horse, and goat each have written by them what they would (hello, neigh, baaa), with the Spanish being different (who knew that Spanish horses said relincho instead of neigh?).

I love some aspects of this BabyLit book and really dislike others. My little one is only 6 months old, and loves looking at the bold, colorful pages. However, as bilingual Spanish/English speaker, I find the content to be lacking. There is no story to follow, as in other books in this series. There are only single words translated between English and Spanish. Basically by the end, we know the name of the main characters, a few items and a goat. I can see my daughter growing bored with this 'story' very quickly when she is able to follow along. I understand that it might be helpful to introduce Spanish/English to a young child, but for a family who is already exposed to both, the book offers only pretty pictures.
That being said, the construction of the book is very sturdy. I am not worried about my daughter pulling it apart. I am not going to count out the BabyLit series, but I would not buy another 'Spanish Primer'.

An enjoyable little book. My 9 month old baby seems to enjoy the pictures and my 4 year old does too. I also find him trying to sound out the words in English and Spanish. It's one of my favourites too, so it's parent and child friendly. It's not supposed to be a simplified version of the doorstop novel, but a cute introduction to the story perhaps but more for of a fun introduction to Spanish. Seemingly simple but we get lots from it.
