About the author

Rebecca grew up in small midwestern towns in the state of Kansas. Throughout her childhood when she was in trouble her parents would ground her from reading. Now, before you judge them for this, the truth was, she read A LOT. This habit kept her from doing many of the things she should do, like chores, and obeying her parent’s instructions. Also, it really was one of the few things they could take away from her that was a punishment (she would even hide books in the towel cabinet in the bathroom so she could get a chapter in on ‘bathroom breaks’). They did not use this same tack with her siblings who were very different from her and had to be grounded from…other things.
She was a library aid in high school, loved forensics, and English was always her favorite subject. College led to an English major, and in her junior year she decided to pick up a teaching license so that she could get a job right after graduation. She taught English, speech, and coached forensics in Jr/Sr High School for five years.
After she married (an awesome guy…who also likes reading) and started a family. She left teaching full-time to stay home and finish her M.S. in Education.
She has two beautiful boys who reintroduced her to the beauty of picture books and children’s literature.
Both boys are in school full-time now, and she’s returned to teaching in a local middle school.
As many readers do, she’s gone through different seasons of reading. There was a time in life when she read mostly romance, or mystery, or thrillers. As she’s gotten older her tastes have matured and changed. She is quite eclectic in my choices now. Also, she’s begun to enjoy nonfiction genres a great deal more than she did in her younger years. All of this reading background and experience led her to an inevitable conclusion. Writing.
She’s always been a writer, but she didn't always think of herself as one. Over the past few years she has discovered a love of writing that developed into a passion.
She’s under no illusions. This will be long journey. But, she loves the scenery.

Why you need to add AFTER THE RAIN to your book collection:
o This is a perfect example of a true picture book where the illustrations tell part of the story along with the lyrical and poetic text.
o The book is fun to read aloud with verb phrases like “Water rushes, roils, ripples” and “Blast! Boom! Bash!”
o Children often have conflicts when they play and these two diverse characters figure out how to work out their differences without adult intervention.
o Who doesn’t love putting on rain boots and jumping into puddles?
o This darling read-aloud will prompt discussions about how to resolve problems and get along with others.
It starts after the rain when Levi grabs his rain gear and runs straight into the water, ready for an adventure. He finds it tracking his boat through the run-off. But after a daring drain rescue, he runs into Polly who claims the river, then outlaws boats. How can this end? I’ll give you a clue – “Building together is much more fun.” (It’s the last line of this book.)
