Terry Runyan loves animals, particularly cats, and you’ll usually find furry, feathery and fishy friends in her work. She enjoys mixing it up and works in many mediums such as watercolor, cut paper and digital. Phaea Crede loves writing silly picture books for silly kids. Serious kids, too! Her picture books include JET THE CAT (IS NOT A CAT), STITCH CRASHES DISNEYS, and SUPER PIZZA & KID KALE as well the upcoming titles OH, DEER and PRINCESS BATTLE ROYALE. Phaea lives outside of Boston with her husband, two kiddos, two kittens, and 60-pound lap dog named Frieda.

Phaea has had lots of writing jobs in her life, like scriptwriting for the TV shows NATURE CAT and WORD GIRL. Once, she even got to play video games and write about them for a living! But nothing in the world compares to writing picture books.

As a writer with dyslexia, Phaea is proud to demonstrate that disabilities don't have to stand in the way of dreams. She hopes to connect with kids and adults who think they can't write—and convince them that they can!

I bought this book for my five-year-old grandson and it did not disappoint! He loved the idea that Jet the Cat may not be a cat. But of course, Jet is a cat—she’s just different! She loves to swim and do all kinds of non-cat stuff. The colorful illustrations by Terry Runyan are beautiful and will have kids searching for animals throughout. This is a READ-IT-AGAIN book!

My kids are all about cat books since we have a pet cat, but this book exceeded my expectations and is a must have, even if you're not a cat family. Jet likes to swim, even though it's not a typical cat activity. She's told by another animal that she's not a cat, since she likes to swim. By the end, Jet decides that it doesn't really matter how other animals expect a cat to act, she knows that she's a cat and she likes to swim, and that's all that counts. For my multiracial, autistic son who has been told that he can't be autistic because X or that he can't be Asian because of Y, this was a great book to reinforce that there's no one "right" way to be autistic or Asian. I also loved that the cat was female, since so many times in picture books the default is to make all animals male.
