Lucy Barnard lives in Manchester, England with her husband and two children. After completing her art foundation course in Cheltenham and her illustration degree in Exeter she worked at various publishing companies in London before becoming a freelance illustrator. She has worked for many years with acrylic paint and pencils but recently adapted her illustration style and now works digitally. As well as illustrating for others she also writes and illustrates her own stories, quite often inspired by her children.

This book is based off a children's nursery rhyme. I'm not sure if there is more then one version of the rhyme (there probably is) but it was a little different then what I grew up reciting. Instead of saying

The third one said, "But I don't care".

It says

The third one said, "Good folks beware".

Overall awesome book. The illustrations in it are really adorable. Full of fall colors purple, orange, deep reds. They're really what make this version stand out.

Here's the rhyme this book uses.
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate;
The first one said, "Oh my it's getting late".
The second one said, "There are witches in the air".
The third one said, "Good folks beware".
The fourth one said, "I'm ready for some fun!"
The fifth one said, "Let's run and run and run".
"Wooooooo" went the wind,
And out went the lights.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

Example: “Five little ____ sitting on a ____.” And he will say the words we left out. Our only complaint is that the font is black and the pages are dark. It makes it harder to read and to point the words out. Looking for more books by this author!
