Count down from ten like never before with this uniquely beautiful interactive board book for fans of Eric Carle books! Perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and early readers who are learning numbers and learning how to count, or for anyone who wants a great bedtime book.

Ten on a twig, just passing time... One falls off, and then there are nine.

Watch the birds fall as the pages turn in this interactive picture book from the publisher of the Don't Push the Button series! In this charming, deceptively simple counting book, ten birds sit on a twig. As each falls off, they take a piece of the twig with them, and in the end, they have a new home―just in time to say goodnight. This delightful, fun read is great for bedtime or playtime. The cleverly die-cut pages are great for anyone who loves the format of A Very Hungry Caterpillar and will delight young readers. Counting down introduces the concept of subtraction in a natural way, and the varying lengths of the pages means the birds disappear off the twig as you turn the page.

Children learning how to count will be mesmerized by the actions that happen with the page turns. It encourages repetition and rereads, and is sure to help many kids remember their numbers as they laugh along the way. Parents who want Montessori toys for toddlers will appreciate this tactile and repetitive approach to learning numbers, paired with simple, bold and cute art that looks great in any home. And the strong pages, perfect for grabby little hands, makes this a great next step up from board books for babies.

"In much the same way Eric Carle utilizes the pages in The Very Hungry Caterpillar to show the little critter eating its way through the week, Cole uses pages of increasing width to show how the twig grows shorter as each bird falls and marches off purposefully with the others. Stylistically, the book is captivating. Sure to delight readers. Who knew that turning the pages could be the best part of a book?"―Kirkus Reviews

Perfect for anyone who wants:

  • Homeschool material for preschoolers working on their numbers or who need math picture books
  • Unique and sweet bedtime books for toddlers
  • Stylish baby shower gifts and gifts for kids birthdays
  • Animal books for kids or children's bird books
  • Montessori materials for preschool

Entertaining countdown book from 10 to 1. I'm sure early learners will get a kick out of this book. The illustrations are simple but bright and colorful and stand out well against the white background. There is a bit of tactile use here also, as the pages start very thin, then gradually get wider as the birds fall off the twig. The font is very pleasing and easy to read for young eyeball. The numbers are also in different colors, matching the color of the bird that falls off. Kids may pick up on this and that can help them connect the bird with the number, enhancing the educational value of this book.

This was gifted to us by a friend and I have to say, we love it! The illustrations are beautiful, not to mention the pages are glossy and resilient, esp when dirty toddler fingers attempt to grip and rip them. The cadence and rhymes are so cute and my one-year-old bops her head to the beat. She LOVES when the story goes.... SNAP!!! it makes her laugh every time. We make a game out of the build-up to the SNAP! If you're looking for a new addition to your little one's library, you can't go wrong with Ten on a Twig!

I enjoyed this bright and colorful book that counts down from ten to one with a sweet ending. It is a perfect book to read to my grandchildren. I received a free copy through the Early Reads program. My opinions are my own.

This is a great interactive book. Kids love to join in and say "SNAP." I can’t get enough of the adorable illustrations and the fun growing page sizes. (Think food pages in the Very Hungry Caterpillar)

What an amazing book . Beautifully illustrated with bright coloured birds to attract the younger reader to turn the page . A beautiful story unfolds as the pages turn . Counting backwards , with each bird breaking a twig and flying away with it . I wonder what they are doing with all those twigs ? I would thoroughly recommend you buy this book to find out where all these twigs are going !
My grandchildren 4 1/2 and 2 loved it , in different ways . Involves reading and counting . So a book that will grow with the child . Excellent value . 5 star
