Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Each of these innovative concept books adds an extra dimension to the usual lessons about letters, colors, shapes and numbers. ABC , like so many other alphabet books, starts out with an apple, but then departs from the expected: the familiar fruit becomes the subject of Black and White Rabbit's painting in a wry and often very messy journey from A to Z. 1,2,3 combines a counting lesson with animal identification (and more art) as Gray Rabbit molds piles of colored clay into a variety of figures. In Shape , Brown Rabbit investigates the contents of a brightly wrapped package. White Rabbit, in Color , shows off the mixable properties of the primary colors when she immerses herself in three big tubs of paint. Sweet-natured humor infuses the clear, precise artwork, and Baker's talented bunnies are as winsome as can be. Ages 6 mos.-3 yrs.

This was one of my favorite childhood books, and where I first started to learn to mix colors. I have fond memories of my mother reading it too me, and remember being surprised in high school art when the other students didn't know about mixing colors! (As someone who's always been an artist, that blew my mind and saddened me.) So, when a friend's daughter was turning 1, I decided this was the present to get, a cute fun story that I remembered and loved, that also had educational themes because kids are sponges that absorb information. She told me time after time again how this has become her daughter's favorite book and the one she takes in the car, on trips, and has everyone read to her.

We are a family of artists and this is the first book my husband (an art teacher) read to our first granddaughter. I love this book. It is simple, yet accurately explains mixing your basic colors. It's lovely and the kids love it too.

I brought this book home from the library for my daughter, who is almost 3, and we probably read it 7 times the first day it was at our house. (I immediately ordered our own copy)

This is a very lovely, simple story about a white rabbit who dips herself in tubs of paint. The rabbit is adorable and has a very innocent/inquisitive look about her. The tale includes a wonderful lesson on mixing paint colors. It is written simply so a preschooler can understand.

A great book for preschoolers. I have purchased this book before fromm "Scholastics" and it became the most popular one among the children that are enrolled at Little Picasso NYC for art classes. It started to fall apart and searched on line for a hard cover version of it. I found it on Amazon and this book will serve me for a long time to come. A great intro to the color the basics of color theory for young budding artists in preschool.

What a great book! My three year old LOVES to see what color the bunny wil turn. I originally purchased this to review colors in a foreign language that we were learning as a family, it's been well liked by even my older children for that purpose. The pictures are adorable, and the storyline is simple, yet engaging. We are now looking for some of the others from this series.
