George Ella Lyon's premise in WHO CAME DOWN THAT ROAD puts an original twist on the old creation story. Lyon's use of a young boy and his mother to unfold the creation story is very clever and Lyon's diction flows cohesively with Peter Catalanotto's complementary paintings that are lavish and informative and animates Lyon's writing. This story is pleasant to read and view. Nonetheless, there are minor discrepancies such as: the word "Path" from the initial question "see that path" is not repeated but becomes road, and on page eight, the pigmentation on the hands of the mother and boy seem dark and unreal. The conflict in this story is nonexistent or very subtle alluding to ordeals of the past that transpired down the "Road." Nonetheless, Lyon does a clever job striking an adventurous tone that flows with Catalanotto intriguing paintings.
