I ordered both "The Girl Who Thought in Pictures" and "The Doctor with an Eye for Eyes" for my 3 and 5 year old children. The books arrived last week and became instant favorites, especially with my 5 year-old daughter. I have read them every night since. The biographies strike a difficult balance between being engaging and being factually accurate and appropriately complex. Each story is written in rhyme with and beautifully illustrated. Neither the stories nor the illustrations are simplistic, however. They are detailed and complex making them appropriate and appealing to a wide range of children. In addition, each story ends with a letter from the star of the biography, interesting details from the author's interviews, a timeline and a two-page prose biography. These extras really enhance the books and feed children's curiosity for more information. My daughter loves looking at the photographs, and hearing more about these women's incredible lives.
I appreciate the gap in children's literature these books fill. They are about incredible women who have had a massive impact in the sciences though they faced monumental hurdles. The stories are honest, appropriate, and not watered down. They have led to very meaningful conversations with my daughter about injustice in the world, as well as resilience and perseverance. I will be purchasing more for my school! Highly recommend.

I really enjoy this series of books. It's a refreshing change to introduce real life stories of positive female role models. This book will hold up for many years of my kids reading levels as it has a very informative and more detailed timeline of her journey of breaking down barriers and succeeding as an influential doctor. The illustrations are very interesting for my kids to stop and look at as they hear the story.
I applaud and love the normalizing the every day female heros making breakthroughs in society.

Both children and adults will learn something new from this book. The story sends such a positive message to both young and old. The illustrations are amazing and so creative! They really help tell the story of Dr. Patricia Bath. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. It is such a unique book that can really be enjoyed by all ages. Hope there are many more to come from this author.

This book is amazing. It tells an incredibly inspiring story about a woman I'd never even heard of. I read to my not yet three year old daughter, and she was completely captivated by the rhymes and the engaging illustrations. The subject matter deals with racial and gender inequality, but for lack of a better word, it's done in a very gentle way; it didn't feel overwhelming to read to such a young kid. Dr. Bath's story is incredibly inspiring and uplifting. This is a book we'll be reading over and over again.

This book is brilliantly written! I love reading a book to my 4 year old daughter that gives her a real person she can look up to. It's so important to me, especially being the mother to 2 daughters that she learns that she can accomplish anything that she sets her mind to do, no matter what the obstacles are or what people tell her. The illustrations are so fun and the way the book reads and the rhyming patterns of how it is written, keeps my daughter engaged while I'm reading. I can't wait to follow this series and see what amazing woman the author writes about next!

Read this book in my 5th grade class and they loved it - many chose Dr. Bath for their scientist biography project and used this as a key resource. Inspiring story, wonderfully written, fantastic resources and additional information in the back. Love, love, love - will keep buying anything this author puts out!

This book is so lovely. The story itself is inspiring and the writing makes it even better. It flows so well with excellent rhyming and timing that it becomes a page turner. It's a "story book" but even my 11 year old niece was captivated. And it made me want to learn more about Dr. Bath and her many accomplishments. Highly recommend.

Dr. Pat Bath is my friend. Her father was a Trinidadian. I am a Trinidadian. I know her story.
The book was excellent. I bought about fifteen copies and gave them to friends. I encouraged others to do the same.

The book looks like a children's book but its for everyone. So inspirational. A timely message for those who want to "Make America Great Again."
