This edition contains the third part of one story arc (which I read without reading the first two parts) as well as the first two parts of the "Emerald" story arc.
Even though I don't know what's going to happen next (in vol 10), I can honestly say that this volume has been really amazing. Any pokemon fan will love it.
I believe that this volume is kid-friendly, which is a good thing for adults also. But this is just my personal opinion, which is why a person can choose to read it before giving it to a child. Another reason to read it before giving it to a child is if anyone has this fear that a child may imitate one of the few scenes that should not be imitated in real life.
