What Should I Know As a Parent

Families are unique and have different expectations for the books they choose to read. The following is a list of concepts included in this book that some parents may wish to seek out or avoid.

Language: A character speculates that Long John Silver sails so often because his wife is Black. There is one use of "negroes," "Mexican Indians," "half-bloods," and "negress." "Ass" is used a couple of times to denote someone being foolish.
Violence: Pirates and sailors are shot and stabbed. In the most graphic scene, a sailor is knocked in the back with a crutch and then stabbed in the back by Long John Silver.
Alcohol: The pirates are constantly drinking rum.
